A Look Back

I started the couch to 5k VERY out of shape. Sometimes when I get bummed out about a bad run I like to look back to the start of my running program. It makes me feel accomplished. :)

So, here are some old posts from a board I'm on complete with date that I posted them.

February 21st
Just started C25k today!
Is it bad that I was winded after the 5 minute warm up walk?

Yeah, I am REALLY out of shape and was so embarrassed by how much out of shape I really am! I've never been like this before.

I toughed it out though and finished the whole 25 minutes (although, I admit I fast walked more than we are supposed to...I DID jog as well but my walking lasted longer than 90 seconds...I'm going to add an additional week or two onto the first weeks workout until I can do it exactly as it is written)
I'm glad you guys posted about this...I am psyched about getting back into shape and possibly even trying a race eventually.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

April 15th
I don't think I would be ready for a 5k by June. But I wonder if my son would be interested

April 21st
I'm beginning to think that I will never be able to be a "runner".
I can't seem to sustain my run for long periods of time.
I was going to start running with my son on his days off but I just can't get to that point (he of course is a runner...on the long distance track team so he would leave me in the dust).
glad you guys are doing well though!
I am trying to do the C25k. I started out really slow because I was sooo out of shape...I can't believe I let that happen because I have always been very athletic.
But I run outside so on days like today...I don't get out.
I'll keep trying though, you guys give me hope that I can do it.
I'd really like to run in a marathon at some point but I am sooo far away from that it isn't even funny.
Meanwhile, my son is trying to improve his 1 mile time...he can't seem to get over the 5 minute hump...and I can't sustain a run for a mile.

April 22nd (in response to a couple of friends posting about their running progress...at this point I still could not sustain a jogging pace for a mile)
an easy 3"?... "only a mile"?
oy...I have a long way to go!
Good for you though for sticking with it today
sorry to hear about your disappointment
oh sorry...my brain went to mush after I read 3 miles. I just can't imagine being able to run that long. Some day hopefully.

April 23rd
I just can't imagine falling asleep in the middle of a run...I'm constantly saying to myself..."I'll run until that tree or mailbox up there...then I'll stop".
LOL.
oh and also...he felt bad for me that I have been so discouraged about my running.
He said "mom, you can come run with me on the high school trail! Its a fairly long run." and I said "no way, I wouldn't be able to run with you...I would hold you back too much from your own practicing...I run VERY slow and occasionally walk" and he said "then I'll walk with you!"
AW...how sweet! But I told him he had to run at his own pace and I would work on my speed and run with him when I get better.

May 12th
I am so proud of you for getting yourself up to a 3 mile run!
I am noticing some big differences for me. I'm not up to a 3 mile run yet but I can tell that I'm getting in shape!
I was so bad off when I first started that I was winded after the 5 minute warm up walk. which is terrible because I was an athlete in high school and kept in shape up until 3 years ago.
I'm having a hard time figuring out the c25k intervals though so I'm looking for a podcast to tell me when to switch. I don't have a good watch for it...I'd borrow my son's runners watch but he takes it with him to school for practice...darn him! LOL
So as a result, I haven't been doing the "program" per se...I've just been doing a 2 mile run/walk every day. But once I figure out how to keep track, I will definately follow the program.

May 18th
ok...we are officially in for the 5k in June. I'm 95% sure I will not be running though. Thats okay, I'll get to that point eventually and I'll join you guys either at the end of the season or next year ...for sure!
I'm loving the c25k. I'm not sure I love the running part of it but I love progressing through another stage and completing it! I'm feeling accomplished!
